Each winter night that the shelter opens, volunteers serve in three short shifts to help keep guests safe, warm, and cared for. This allows each volunteer to sign up for the shift that best suits their schedule. Volunteers can also serve in shorter ways, such as helping with initial guest check-ins or assisting staff with cleanup after the shelter closes, or prepping and serving a simple hot meal or a warm bowl of soup.
Check-in & setup. Welcome guests as they arrive and help get the space ready for the night.
Overnight. Keep a calm, attentive presence while guests rest.
Check-out & clean up. Help guests out in the morning and reset the space.
This is a starting point, not a commitment. Email us and let us know which shift works for you and whether your congregation is already a partner site — we'll follow up with the details. Let us know if you have served in a shelter before and a good cell number that we can reach you at.
